Passengers to enjoy WI-FI in Nigeria Airport-- Minister of Aviation Mr. Osita Chidoka....
The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, has
said that Wi-fi services will be made available in all the nation’s airports.
He said this during the inauguration of aviation
tele-presence equipment at the ministry in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement by the Principal Information
Officer for the ministry, Mr. Iyogun Sunday, Chidoka said, “Wi-fi services will
be inaugurated in Lagos next week to enable passengers to log in with their
computers and perform their transactions easily while in transit at the
airports.
“This Wi-fi service will be available across all
the airports of the nation; this would help to bring our airports services to
global standard.”
He added that a robust aviation ministry was
being handed over to the incoming administration, which would have to be built
on.
The aviation tele-presence equipment is said to
be geared towards improving the correspondences between the ministry‘s head
office and the chief executive officers of parastatals under the ministry.
Chidoka, while inaugurating the equipment, said
the ministry’s quest to leverage ICT and enhance delivery of effective and
efficient necessitated the idea of tele-presence equipment.
He said, “The tele-presence device will allow the
minister, permanent secretary, and directors of the ministry to sit in the
comfort of their offices and hold meetings with the chief executives of the
ministry’s agencies across the country, thereby reducing the rate of travelling
for meetings.
“I hope that the next aviation minister will be
ICT-compliant and continue with the project of building one aviation house that
will improve efficiently the running of the industry.”
To demonstrate the operation of the tele-presence
equipment, the minister was said to have held a brief meeting with the CEOs of
the agencies and the Lagos office.
The chief executive officers of all the agencies
reportedly expressed their readiness for the security audit coming up between June
1 and 9 2015 by International Civil Aviation Organisation with the Lagos office
showing optimism that Nigeria would be successful.
