THE leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)
in Edo state, their counterparts in the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the
Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) Wednesday staged a peaceful
protest calling on Governor Adams Oshiomhole to sack the state Head of Service,
Jerry Obazele for “gross incompetence.”
Speaking on behalf of the state workers and the
unions, chairman of the JNC, Comrade Shaka Otoede said the continued stay in
office of the HOS would further hamper the cordial relationship between the
workers and the Governor.
The workers accused the HOS of being the only sole
signatory to the proposed contributory pension scheme.
Otoede said: “Comrade Jerry Obazele’s impunity lies in and the manner he went ahead to deduct the pension contribution of 8 per cent from the workers’ salaries without recourse to our earlier appeal and advice to stay action on the matter until the proper framework for implementation is put in place.”

“We noted with disaffection, Comrade Obazele’s
unwillingness to discuss the issue on behalf of government, hence we resolved
to commence a three-day warning strike with effect from Monday May 25, 2015.”
The Guardian could not get any response from the
office of the HOS and several calls were neither picked nor returned.
