Rivers people will not regret voting for me - Wike

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Thursday, that the people of Rivers State would not regret voting for him as his administration was determined to rebuild the state.
Wike made this remark in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area shortly after inspecting the Abonnema township road and bridge about being completed in Akuku Toru Local Government Area.
The governor explained that since the people of the state voted for him out of their own desire, it was his duty to reciprocate their gesture with quality projects.
Speaking to hundreds of Abonnema residents, who trooped out to welcome him, Wike, said the Abonnema township road and bridge would be asphalted in a week’s time after two months of sustained work by the contractor.
Wike expressed delight that the contractor lived up to his pledge to do a good job, adding that residents of Abonnema have begun to use the road and the bridge.

The governor promised to rehabilitate the General Hospital in Abonnema and give the people quality healthcare.
“You have given us your mandate and you will not regret it. We will not abandon the people of Akuku-Toru. We will also rehabilitate the Abonnema General hospital to ensure that the people have access to quality healthcare.”
He thanked the Abonnema people and their traditional council for providing an enabling environment for the contractor to complete the road and bridge.
Responding, the Amayanabo of Abonnema, King Gbobo Bob-Manuel, commended Wike for completing the abandoned road.
He also thanked the governor for upgrading the Abonnema stool to a first class status, assuring him (governor) of his people’s support.

10 ways to be the girl all guys want -

1. Laugh. Watch silly animal videos on YouTube. Watch a comedy. Tell corny jokes. Loosen up and learn to laugh. Laughing more reminds your body and your mind that life isn’t always serious.
2. Be mindful about what you put into your body, but don’t take it to extremes. Food is meant to be enjoyed and savored. If you get so wrapped up micromanaging your intake, it’s hard to have fun. YES, I know that some folks really do have food allergies and it’s nothing to take lightly. But, baby, you don’t have to make every meal a serious business.
3. Speaking of our bodies, stop trying to burn calories and find something physical you enjoy doing. Ride your bike. Go for a walk. Play a game of hoops. Going to spin class, yoga or Pilates is all fine and good if you enjoy it. But if you don’t like it, then it’s going to make you cranky. Finding a way to move your body that’s fun will remind you that life is meant to be lived and experienced — not regimented.
4. And while we’re on the topic of our bodies, go to bed already. Did you know that sleep deprivation will make you cranky? When you’re tired and cranky, of course you’re going to be able to have fun with life. All those posts of Facebook will be there tomorrow. And that email? It will be, too. Make sure you get enough sleep so that you can put your energy toward playing, not staying awake.
5. Rules are made to be broken. If you live your life by following a strict set of rules, of course you’re going to be wound a little tight. There’s a big difference between laws and rules. Don’t box yourself into a tiny space with loads of rules. If the rules are holding you back from being the sexiest, shiniest, most amazing version of who you are, then maybe they’re optional.
6. All work and no play make you a dull person. A good work ethic is important, but take a tip from JLaw here, too. When she isn’t working, she’s hanging out with friends, shopping and having fun. Grab a friend and play a game. It’s not about who wins or what your score is; it’s about the camaraderie and laughter that happen when you play a game with a friend. Go ahead and photo bomb your best friend.
7. Allow yourself to Feel ALL of your emotions. If you’re busy numbing yourself and trying not to feel those icky emotions, then you can’t really feel the good stuff either. There’s no such thing as selective numbing. So, if you feel like having a good cry? Cry. I promise you it will help you loosen up!
8. Stop trying to be perfect. Trying to be perfect is nothing short of exhausting.
9. Sometimes, you just have to chill. Kick back and binge watch “Orange is the New Black.” Hang out in your jammies all day and read a book. Hang out in bed all day. JLaw admits loving TV and chilling. Gwyneth doesn’t let her kids watch TV unless it’s in French or Spanish.
10. Meet a new beau? Relax and enjoy dating! Hold hands. Talk. Laugh. Flirt. Connect. Make out like you’re in high school. Don’t start planning the wedding after the first date. Relax and allow things to progress.

most people are guilty of this --

Hahaha!! it reminds me of what I used to do in the past  and people still do it, they will remain very small portion in the pot just because they don't want to be the one to wash the pot. If you are guilty of this act, please share your experience..

11 Qualities of good people who gets ahead -

One of the greatest predictors of success is personality. If you want to be more successful, take a good hard look at your personality. Those with likable personalities receive better treatment and more freedoms. When people enjoy being around you, you will be treated better, seen as more successful, viewed as more confident, and your rise to the top is often quicker.
1. Be authentic.
Know who you are and manage yourself well. When you know who you are others experience you as trustworthy. To be authentic you must operate without pretenses. Be confident and honest. Do not compare yourself to others and do not put any effort into being someone you are not.
Have a keen awareness of your strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly. When you’re authentic there is no “trying” to impress because what you already possess internally is impressive, workable and successful.

2. Be interested.

Show interest in others and appreciate the benefits of developing new, stimulating relationships. When you are not self-centered you will enjoy listening to others share about themselves. Recognize each person as someone you can learn from.
Being interested will make you a great networker because people will sense you have no hidden agendas. People will appreciate the depth of your interest and experience you to as genuine and likeable, making them feel open and willing to do business with you.

3. Be attentive.

Be present when others are communicating. Make it your sole intention to stay absorbed in the information being discussed. When you are not distracted or impatient to share your own perceptions, people will enjoy connecting with you.
When people feel heard and understood they relax and become more drawn to you. When you are attentive trust is developed and opportunities are more generously offered because people will feel confident they are entering into a mutually beneficial relationship.

4. Be humble.

Be satisfied and fulfilled in life by your own volition, work ethic and commitment to your success and that of others. Know the serenity that comes when you don't need to be the star of the show. Always acknowledge that your success in life has come with the help and support of many who believed in your ability and willingness to learn. Appreciate those who helped you get to where you are.
Never hesitate to share the spotlight. Understand that as you shine, so do others. When you are humble  people want to partner with you.

5. Be prompt.

Value your own time and the time of others. Be prepared, organized and efficient. In disciplining yourself to be organized and on time you will experience less stress. When you are on top of things life is more enjoyable. Others will appreciate your sense of duty and trust they can count on you to be ready for any occasion.
Employers and partners value these qualities and will see you as an asset. They will give you successive opportunities to grow and develop to keep you from looking for other opportunities elsewhere.
6. Be accepting.
Be wise enough to never shut others out with prejudgment. Come to view life as rich with opportunity and learn to embrace human differentiation. Let it inspire you that everyone is different. Refrain from criticizing the choices others make, even if you would never make those choices for yourself.
By practicing acceptance people will feel they can be true to who they are around you. Acceptance creates possibility. As you develop more diverse relationships and connections you greatly increase your opportunities for love, joy and success.
The only fear you should never lose is that the one person you don’t accept has the offer you’ve hoped for.

7. Be giving.

Develop an attitude of abundance. Embrace yourself by giving back. In giving of yourself and your time you will become a richer and deeper human being. You will need less from others as you discover the satisfaction of lending a helping hand to people who need it.
Develop a genuine concern for people, their needs, thoughts and feelings. As others sense this in you, they are confident asking you for guidance or assistance.

8. Be optimistic.

Live in optimism. Work on being self-competent. When you live through optimism you become an infectious person to be around. Strive to make other people feel good or better while in your presence. As you become comfortable in yourself and your abilities you will have the power to instantly lighten the mood of those around you.
Make it your nature to always look for the silver lining, the growth opportunity, the brighter side of the challenges you face. Don't dwell on negative thoughts or spend time around negative people. They only dull your shine.
Exude brightness and people will naturally want to follow.

9. Be empathetic.

Show understanding and compassion for the emotional pain of others. Develop the perspective needed to imagine another person’s pain. As your empathy grows it will become less challenging to put your own defenses or perceptions aside to absorb what is being shared with you by another, whether you agree or not.
Become a compassionate listener. When solving problems, make decisions based on the mix of your perception and the person you are dealing with.

10. Be open.

Be open to receiving and letting other people in, Have an open mind and heart. Being guarded blocks opportunity and discourages trust and emotional well-being. The more you increase your emotional income the more capable you become in opening yourself up to new relationships and opportunities.
Openness increases your likelihood of developing relationships that are reciprocal, enduring and forward moving. Accept that we are all in a process of constant change that requires you to be flexible so you do not stunt your growth or someone else’s.

11. Be quiet.

When you are self-assured you will no longer engage with self-centered people who have a wide ego terrain to defend. You will not tolerate loud, angry, manipulative, boisterous, histrionic, narcissistic people. You will spend zero time or effort on attention-seeking behaviors or antics because there is no need.
Commit to self-development and becoming deeply anchored in who you are, what you have to offer and what you are accomplishing in life. Drop the need to cater to egomaniacs who march around with loud personality billboards.
Never be the biggest show-off in your office, strive to be the hardest working.
Embrace the quiet qualities of self-competence and people will naturally be drawn to, and curious about, you. Focus on producing because you will be the happiest when you are succeeding. Use your time to gain more knowledge and try new things. Turn down the volume, talking less and watch yourself succeed even more.
The greatest benefit to continually working on raising your emotional income, through the betterment of yourself and your life, is you exponentially increase your opportunities. Opportunities come to you through the easiness of your likability. Why? People desire to give opportunities to people they like. It’s simple.

An eyewitness said the deceased had on the fateful day, gone to a nearby local shop situated within the area to take a sachet of his usual brand of gin and boosted to the shop owner that he could finish 20 sachets of the drink.

How to get a flat tummy -

•Positioning of the body and chewing:
The most important factor is to sit when you eat and to chew slowly with your mouth. The more you chew with a mouthful, the lesser you’ll eat.
•Avoid consumption of sweetened juices and drinks!
The sweetened mineral water, the soft drinks and the sweetened fruit juices contain lot of calories and are causing flatulence in the stomach. So it is best to drink only water when feel thirsty.
•Stop the usage of artificial sweeteners!

The artificial sweeteners which contain lactitol, mannitol and sorbitol are digested in our intestines in the abdomen where the bacteria feed on them. And the intestines and the abdomen produce additional
emissions which will hamper the digestion. It’s best to use the brown sugar in smaller quantities
• Be aware of resistant starch:
We all know the rule then starch is easily digested, but that’s not the case with the resistant starch. The resistant starch isn’t absorbed in the intestines, and undigested goes to the colon. That’s why this starch often causes flatulence in the intestines.
The resistant starch is found in bananas, beans, mushrooms, potatoes and rice.
• Don’t consume vegetables which cause flatulence:
Onions, cabbage and beans are part of the vegetables which cause flatulence in the abdomen. In the times when you want to look amazing and perfect, you should avoid them.
• Consume probiotics:
Yogurt contains good bacteria, which helps the digestive system in reducing the amount of air in the intestines, and the experts proved the fact that probiotics reduce flatulence in the abdomen.
• Reduce the salt:
The experts advise that if we limit the amount of intake of salt in our bodies to only 3 grams a day we will significantly reduce the flatulence in our abdomen. Salt causes flatulence because it binds with water.

Toddler disappear during naming

There is tension in Inuosegba community off Akorede Estate in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the discovery of items-severed human wrist, pupils’ bags, uniforms and ladies underwear- in a building.
The discovery was made during the search for a missing 18-months-old child.
The toddler, identified as Hezekiah Opeyemi Ogundele, was playing at the venue of a naming ceremony at 4:10 pm on Sunday.
But while the ceremony was yet to begin, the child was discovered to have vanished.
It was gathered that the naming of Mr. Olusola Osunleke’s daughter was put on hold indefinitely.
Apprehensive guests, including the cleric, who was to officiate at the ceremony, began to comb the surrounding bushes and homes, searching for the child.
During the search, they discovered the severed wrist of an adult human being, ladies’ underwear and children’s items near a bungalow, 35 metres away from the venue.
Upon approaching the building, two persons sighted near the premises claimed they did not see a toddler.
It was gathered that later in the day, Ogundele’s uncle returned to the building, forced the door open, where he saw strange things.
Following surveillance of the building, a commercial motorcycle operator who visited the building
was arrested and handed over to the police at the Lafenwa Divisional Police Headquarters, Abeokuta.
The Nation visited the building believed to owned by a herbalist,  Olasile Ifayemi, and witnessed vandalising of the over seven room bungalow,  desecration of his shrine and destruction of over a dozen pots of horrifying fetish objects.
The palpably bewildered residents said they never knew that a young herbalist lived in their midst and runs a ritualists’ den in the neighbourhood.
Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), police battled to control the crowd which was bent on torching the building.
The 26-year-old fashion designer and mother of the missing child, Elizabeth, said she was preparing to attend the ceremony when she discovered that her son has disappeared.
According to her, during the search she saw two young men in a building adjacent to the Osunlekes’ house and asked them if they saw her son, which they denied.
She said while walking away, she instinctively looked back and saw the two men making strange signals to each other which prompted some women to storm the building but they scared the women away by stripping themselves naked.
But before the men got to the building, the occupants had fled. But one of them who returned later was apprehended and kept in police custody.
“I started searching for my son, and searched a new bungalow where I saw two men sitting outside the house. I asked if they saw my boy, but they looked at each other and replied no.
“As I turned away, they started laughing.  I searched behind the house where I saw many fetish objects. I quickly turned back and I couldn’t find the young men again, so I called my husband Daniel and he reported to the police.”
Police Commissioner Abdulmajid Ali said investigation has begun.
He said: “I want to make it clear to the people that I am here to work and reduce crime.
“The site that was discovered has no relationship with the boy and other human parts found there.
“We will let you see what really happened when we finish our investigation.”

10 Things to Quit Immediately -

1. Quit resisting change.
Change is a necessary part of progress and growth and happiness and life! When we resist change we are essentially denying the opportunity for more love and abundance and amazing things to come into our lives. Change has to happen if you want to reach a goal. It has to happen if you want to advance in your career. Change has to happen in order for your kids to grow and thrive. So quit resisting the inevitable! You have the power to guide those changes into a future that is incredible.
2. Quit thinking you can control everything in your life.
This comes right after no. 1 because it is necessary to be clear on what you CAN change. You can change yourself, your thoughts, your feelings, your actions, but you can't change anyone else. You can't change the weather, the stock market, or your parent's deep seated beliefs. When you go around trying to control other people's behavior you will only be disappointed. When you try to manipulate a situation it only leads to frustration. Just stay in control of your own self, and everything else around you will fall in line.
3. Quit making excuses.
When we get down to it, excuses are just so lame. Everyone else can see that you are making excuses to buy time, or to keep procrastinating, or just avoid doing something that you are afraid of doing. Excuses are a huge waste of energy. Decide to do the thing or decide to not do the thing and move on.
4. Quit blaming other people.
No one else is preventing you from getting what you want. You are 100 percent responsible for your own life. Other people are not putting thoughts in your head or barriers on your progress. In actuality, there are far more people out there who want to see you soar to success then people who want to see you fail or hold you back. Surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams.
5. Quit complaining.
This is another huge waste of your precious time. When you are complaining you are focusing on what you don't want and all the things you don't like. Guess what? What we focus on expands...and if your focus is on all the things you just hate those are the exact things that you will get more of. Your power of focus can be used to bring in more of what you do want. The key is to concentrate on the good, the positive, and the life-affirming things.
6. Quit criticizing.
This happens when we mistakenly believe in perfection. If you tend to find faults in every little thing, or every person that you meet, you will never be able to feel truly happy. Criticism is super negative and judgmental. If you are in the habit of pointing out faults, try to switch the habit to finding the positive attributes. Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have. Perfection is a myth...but beauty is everywhere. Search for that instead.
7. Quit telling so many negative stories to yourself.
All those stories that you have rolling around in your head become your life. If you are constantly telling yourself how much you suck, how you should be better, how you screwed up this that or the other thing you will keep undermining your happiness. To be happy, you must be able to tell the story of how everything is working out in your favor. You must tell the story of how much you are looking forward to that bright future that is in store for you. And then watch how things change....
8. Quit needing to always be right.
This is a function of ego. If you are always trying to prove to everyone else how right you are, soon there won't be many left to tell. No one likes to be put down, or argued with, or shown how you are always right and they are always wrong. The need to always be right ruins relationships and leaves you isolated. Compassion works way better.
9. Quit putting labels on things.
Again, this is about letting go of judgements. Letting go of needing to control others. When you find yourself labeling people and things and religions and whatever, its really just trying to understand them in relation to things that you have already experienced personally. We label things in order to try to make sense of our world. But the world is full of mystery and variety and 7 billion people's dreams and identities. Labeling makes the world smaller, but is that what you really want?
10. Quit fantasizing over the past.
Most of us have a tendency to either relive past experiences or create future scenarios in our mind all day long. It's a shame, because life is actually happening in the present moment. In this very breath you are taking in. Just this one. And if your mind is focused on the past and perhaps feeling regret or loss or anger over how things went down it is negatively affecting your present state. Please, do yourself a favor and say goodbye to the past. It had to happen the way it did for you to become who you are today. Today you have gifts to offer the world because of what you know, this is what to focus on now.
11. Quit living your life for other people.
Your life is unique. There is not another person on Earth who sees things the same as you or who has your beautiful insights. There are so many people who are living their life trying to please everyone else, or trying to fit in, or trying to prove their worth based on the standards of others. When you can start to incorporate everything I mentioned above, you can show up as a powerful and positive force in the world! You start showing up as YOU and living the life that only you can. Letting go of the past, of blame and guilt and shame and criticism of yourself and others frees you up to start making a positive impact. You can feel love and trust and happiness when you leave the need to control and the fear of failing behind.

19 Boko Haram militants killed in Chad-

At least 19 Boko Haram fighters and two Chadian soldiers were killed in combat on Friday after the insurgents attacked a Chadian village on the banks of Lake Chad, a military source said.
“The Islamists fighters attacked early this morning and we returned fire and they were forced to flee back into Nigeria,” the source told Reuters by telephone from Komguia, where the fighting took place.
Chadian President Idriss Deby earlier on Friday vowed to crush the insurgents who have killed thousands of people and threat the stability of the region.
“Chad will never bend in the face Boko Haram and I promise you that Boko Haram will disappear,” he told a group of Muslim clerics.
Boko Haram has fought a six-year-old insurgency to carve out an Islamist state in northeast Nigeria and are carrying out cross-border attacks despite a military campaign involving Nigeria’s neighbours Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
Niger’s army killed at least 30 suspected fighters as it searched for militants in villages just over the border with Nigeria, Nigerien security sources said.
The army launched the operation on Thursday, a day after gunmen thought to be from Boko Haram crossed over from Nigeria and killed at least a dozen villagers on the Niger side of the border.
“Our defence forces who are engaged in the operation inside Nigeria between the towns of Malam Fatori and Damasak, killed the insurgents on Thursday,” a security source said, requesting not to be named.
Boko Haram has started calling itself the Islamic State’s “West Africa Province” since pledging allegiance in March to the hardline militant group which controls large areas of Syria and Iraq.
Early on Friday, two suicide bombers, an elderly woman and a 10-year-old girl, killed at least nine people in the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu as worshippers gathered to mark the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday, a military spokesman said.
The group has targeted security forces, schools and other Muslim communities who do not share its hardline version of Islam.

Sad!!! Super Falons media officer Akunjobi dead -

Though details of the death of the charming journalist is yet to be ascertained, torrent of tributes have been pouring in for  Akujobi who was on duty with the Nigeria women national team at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Some of those that have expressed shock at the sudden death of Akujobi include her colleague at the Nigeria U23 team Timi Ebikagboro  who wrote this on facebook: “In everything the bible say we should give the almighty praise, nothing to add, the Lord knows best, Gracious Akujobi fare thee well, RIP

Runaway twins father returns home!!!!!!!!!!!

Emeka Uche, who goes by the name Citizen, in Agege area of Lagos state, had on Wednesday returned back home after abandoning his four children and pregnant wife, who was said to be expecting a 3rd set of twins.
It would be recalled that Emeka ran away from his family in February after his wife, Ruth informed him that she was having their third set of twins.
Prior to Emeka’s return, according to report, his wife moved out of their dilapidated house in Agege and now lives in a mini flat in Ogun state with the money she received from kind hearted Nigerians who came to her rescue.
The run-away father, however, said: “It was not easy for me. I thought of killing myself on several occasions, but here I am carrying my twins for the very first time since they were born three months ago.”
“When I left, I went to my hometown where I spent a month. After that, I came back to Lagos but I didn’t go to my wife. I was squatting with a friend in Oko-Oba in Agege, not very far from my house. I was that close to my wife and kids but I refused to go home because I already made up my mind not to return until I can proffer a solution to our poverty, how to train my kids and cater for my family. I was ashamed too, to go back to that house to see them after I’d abandoned them for months.
Emeka went further to say that he spoke with his wife over the phone one day and she told him she had moved out of the old house. “I had to go to the former house to ask if anyone had the address to the new place my wife moved to. It was then I got the address and like a prodigal, I went back to my family”, he added.
The wife in her statement, expressed gratitude to God and the Lagos state government for uplifting her family. She also explained that she never imagined her life would be this easy and beautiful. She said, “I have never thought of living in such a house where you have your kitchen and toilet all to yourself. I moved in here on Sunday and I am so happy and grateful”.

“What more can I wish for, except for my husband to come and enjoy this good life with me? People who used to laugh at us for not having food to eat can now see how God works. My mother-in-law who abandoned me has now turned a good friend. I am just so thankful to God because He wiped the shame off my face. I have promised God that I will do my best to grow the business I just started. I want to grow and be able to help women with similar case as mine. I want to be able to impact their lives in future as my life was touched and changed”, she added.

I chose Umaru Yar’ Adua as my successor because others were corrupt - Obasanjo

FOrmer President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Wednesday that he chose the late former President Umaru Yar’ Adua as his successor because the others who wanted the post were corrupt.

Obasanjo said one of the people who wanted to succeed him in 2007 was “stinkingly corrupt” and that the only way he (Obasanjo) could justify himself before man and God was to go for Yar’Adua, who, he said, was the only one among the contenders then who was not corrupt.

The former President, who spoke in an interview with a private television station, Channels Television, in Abeokuta, did not mention the ‘corrupt’ Yar’Adua rivals.

Among the prominent presidential hopefuls in the Peoples Democratic Party in 2007 were Obasanjo’s deputy, Abubakar Atiku; and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili.

Atiku later abandoned the PDP to contest the presidential election on the platform of the defunct Action Congress while Odili’s ambition fizzled out with the nomination of Yar’Adua.

The AC later metamorphosed into the Action Congress of Nigeria, which later merged with the Congress for Progressive Change and the All Nigeria Peoples Party to form the now ruling All Progressives Congress.

Obasanjo’s choice of successor died on May 5, 2010 from heart-related ailments. Many condemned Obasanjo for choosing a man who was manifestly sick to lead the country.

but in the Channels interview, Obasanjo said he only acted based on the information made available to him.

He said, “Even if you take your son as your successor, you are not sure of what he will do when he gets there. Don’t ever kid yourself.

“What do I know about any successor? What he presents. When he gets there, he presents it differently.

“We did our best, but if you say our best is not good enough, I will say, when it comes to your turn, do better.

“With all the people that are available for successor, what we came up with was about the best that we could think of at that time.

“One of those who wanted to do the job came to me and said, ‘Sir, I like your job, but I cannot do it the way you are doing it.’ Now, if he had told me that, should I then come and say, ‘okay, come, let me give you the job?’ He had told me that, ‘I like your job, but look, the way you are doing it, I haven’t got the stamina to do it that way.’ Then, what do you expect me to do?

“Or the one that I know that, oh!, this one, before he gets the job, he’s stinkingly corrupt. Now will I be able to defend myself before God and man if with what I know I give this job or I encourage the man to have this job?"

Presenting the items to the management of University of Calabar TeaChing Hospital ( UCTH)
, the NDDC Commissioner in Cross River State, Paul Ada said since inception, the commission has remained committed to providing services to the people of Niger Delta region.
Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Thomas Agan said the donation was a relief to the hospital following the recent economic meltdown which has dwindled allocations to the hospital.
According to him, since the hospital relocated from the previous location at Moore Road to the permanent site it has been difficult managing the hospital due to poor funding from government.

Doctors at Yaba Psychiatry Hospital begin strike over insecurity, poor working conditions

Doctors at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatry Hospital, Yaba have been on a five week strike following their anger over insecurity at the outpatient clinic of the hospital.
Investigation by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that only skeletal services were being offered by consultants available to see the few patients who visited the hospital since the start of the strike.
The emergency unit which is usually filled with patients was empty as there were no health personnel to attend to the patients.
The President, Association of Resident Doctors of the hospital, Dr Oyetayo Jeje said that lack of security at the outpatient clinic was a major challenge.
“There are no escape routes for health workers in case of an emergency, that is, if an aggressive patient would break out to harm doctors, patients and patient relatives.
“Also, there are no alarm systems to alert for help in case of an emergency and even the consultants have refused to run clinics due to the security challenges.
“The Federal Ministry of Health needs to step in to avoid loss of lives and bodily harm to health workers as well as patients and their relatives,” she said.
She said that other grievances of the doctors include the unconducive working conditions as seen in the dilapidated state of the consulting rooms, including broken chairs.
Jeje said that salaries of the doctors had not been fully paid by the management even though complete salary had been released from the ministry.
In an interview with NAN, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Rahman Lawal, said that the hospital was running skeletal services in spite of the on-going strike.
Lawal said that various heads of units of the hospital were on ground to attend to the few patients available.
He said that the hospital had security personnel on ground and that the management had recruited more security personnel to be stationed at the outpatient clinic.
“We have security personnel in the hospital that patrol everywhere and we have also put in place measures to ensure that the hospital is safe,” he said.

If nothing is done about Boko Haram, Abuja will be the next target - Ekweremadu

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said on Thursday, July 9, that the activities of Boko Haram greatly increased after the inauguration of President Buhari.
Ekweremadu said the activities of the Islamic terrorist sect which had been curtailed by the former administration- has now greatly escalated.
He expressed worry over the recent spate of insurgency in the country, saying that if nothing is done, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, would be the next target of Boko Haram.
Ekweremadu stated the following, during an interaction with journalists in Abuja.
He said,
“I am worried about the insurgence of the Boko Haram activities in Nigeria.  Shortly before the inauguration of the present government, the country had almost rolled back Boko Haram and its activities in every part of Nigeria – from Adamawa to Borno to Yobe.
I was hoping that when we come back in the 8th Assembly, that I will work with our colleagues from the North-East to develop a plan of action that will help to rehabilitate that part of Nigeria. I feel so concerned about the suffering of our people from the North-East of Nigeria.
I had hoped that by now we would be tasking ourselves on how best to rebuild that part of Nigeria. Regrettably the actions of Boko Haram seems to have resurfaced now not only in Borno, they have carried out their activities also in Plateau, they have gone to Adamawa, Kaduna.
I am worried that if nothing is done, the next target would be Abuja. Maybe they start going to South. It is important for us as those in government, whether Executive or Legislature, to come together to find solutions to these problems.
“We must be on the same page on this matter. I believe that it is time for us to have meetings with the Executive as well as the security agencies in order to find out exactly what has happened – why the resurgence of these Boko Haram activities and what we can do as a people to ensure that this matter is dealt with decisively.”
