A 46-year-old woman has reportedly committed suicide in Ajebamidele area of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
This was just as the police gunned down two armed robbers and arrested one other along Ikere -Akure Road.
The mother of three, simply identified as Mrs. Ajibola, succeeded in taking her own life by hanging around 6pm on Tuesday, after several unsuccessful attempts.
The deceased, whose death has thrown the community into mourning, was said to have informed landlords in the area of her intention to address a world press conference slated for 6.30pm.
A source said, “It was when some of us arrived to listen to what she had to tell us that we discovered that she was nowhere to be found.
“It was when we were searching for her that we saw her dangling body on the roof in her house.
“The victim had been sick and treated several times. Many times, she had threatened to take her own life by jumping into the well and we had to announce to all landlords that they should make sure that their wells are well covered to avoid any mishap”.
At Ologede Police Station in Ajebamidele where the case was reported,some sympathisers were sighted in groups discussing the incident while a senior police officer referred
journalists to the police public relations officer, Mr. Alberto Adebayo, who said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
One of the sympathisers, who said the deceased was her relative, said the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of Mary Assumpta Catholic Hospital, Ajilosun.
