Kwara Council Workers Commence Strike Over Unpaid Salaries


Local government workers in Kwara State, today commenced a strike action over non- payment of salaries.
The workers, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Local Government employees (NULGE), said the industrial action cut across all the 16 local government areas in the state.
According to the State secretary of NULGE, Abayomi Afolabi ” all local government workers in all the 16 local governments in the state have embarked on a total strike which started today”.
” The strike is related to the non payment of salary for several months, some are owned five months, and those owned least is two months.”
“We have joined our colleagues in other states who had embarked on the strike in a long time”.
Abayomi however denied the rumour milling the rounds that some members of the  Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Planned to stage a protest  to the Government House during the Sallah celebration.
” We are not planning to embark on any protest at all during Sallah celebration, in fact most of us are not celebrating because there is no money to celebrate”
” Our salaries have not been paid for two to five months”.
